Yesterday, Facebook’s former Chief Security Officer Alex Stamos announced via Twitter he would be helping Zoom with new security measures. As we previously covered, the online video conferencing tool’s explosive growth in the last month, going from 10 million users in December to more than 200 million in March, has made it a target for bad actors spamming the platform with NSFW images and racial slurs

After writing a series of tweets about Zoom’s current challenges, Stamos said the company’s CEO Eric Yuan reached out to him to discuss security expectations. “Zoom has some important work to do in core application security, cryptographic design and infrastructure security, and I’m looking forward to working with Zoom’s engineering teams on those projects,” writes Stamos. 

Zoom’s recent security issues have put a spotlight on the challenges that come with a sharp rise in usage for martech platforms. Such exponential growth can result in marketing technology companies having to scale their platforms to meet high-volume demands, often without the time or resources to do so effectively.

Meanwhile, some social martech platforms have been able to pivot quickly in response to the crisis. Opendorse, a social publishing platform originally designed for sports marketing teams, has launched Opendorse for Business, extending the company’s solution to businesses, brands and agencies. Sprout Social and Socialbakers have also rolled out COVID-19 related features since last month. 

Socialbakers CEO Yuval Ben-Itzhak said the platform’s Social Customer Care solution is experiencing an uptick in usage, as well as its content creation and execution tools. “Brands understand they cannot afford not to communicate during a crisis,” said Ben-Itzhak.

HIRING HELP. While not technically martech, AI-powered talent acquisition platform Eightfold.ai has announced it will make its platform available for free to help companies and individuals whose jobs have been affected by COVID-19. On one hand, the platform allows those who may have lost jobs to create profiles so they can be matched with firms that are hiring. But the platform can also be used by companies to keep track of furloughed employees so they can quickly hire them back if they need to. Why we care. The economic disruption of this crisis is causing a lot of job losses and business cutbacks, so if this platform and the AI that powers it can help get people back to work, we support that.
